3 Things to Do in Chester County, PA With Your Family
Highland Orchards
Highland Orchards is the first on my list of things to do in Chester County, PA. The Highland Orchards is a stunning outdoor rustic farm with 200 acres of growing crops. Bring your family to the orchards to pick fruit and vegetables when they are in season. Additionally, an animal exhibit is available for children to meet and feed the farm animals, such as goats and chickens. The Orchards also offer educational and school tours, so the learning is never-ending. Then, when you want to take a minute to breathe, the kids can play on the large farm-themed playground on the property.
However, one of my favorite parts of the Highland Orchards is the beautiful spots for portraits. The location offers various backgrounds, from apple trees and strawberry fields to hayrides and pumpkin patches. There are many spots to choose from, no matter the season. You can also use antique tractors for portraits.
Highland Orchards is located at 1000 Marshallton-Thorndale Road, West Chester, PA 19380. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Longwood Gardens
Finally, Longwood Gardens is one of my favorite things to do in Chester County, PA. This garden is the former home of the Lenni Lenape tribe and Quaker farmers. The gardens believe that horticulture, education, and the arts are fundamental for everyone, and they strive to inspire their guests with this. Longwood Gardens has many areas that change seasonally for variety within the gardens. They also feature some gorgeous locations for your family photos. These areas include:
- Meadow & Forest District
- Main Fountain Garden District
- Ponds and fountains that dance and light up with color at night for full shows
- The Lakes District with water gardens, tropical plants from around the world, large and small lakes
- House & Theater District with a flower garden walk and shaded canopies
- Conservatory District with classical architecture glass structure housing a lush garden and children’s garden
- Chimes Tower District with a waterfall, the tower that rings every hour, and the Oak and Conifer Knoll
Longwood Gardens offer many education programs, classes, and workshops for all ages. You can also find a series of music and theatre performances in the summer. Tickets are required for the gardens and start at $25. Children 4 and under are always free, and memberships are available for those who love to visit often.
You can visit the Longwood Gardens at 1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Their hours vary based on the time of year, so look at their website for the most up-to-date information.
