When booking a Philly area newborn session, you are faced with the question of whether you would prefer a studio newborn session or a in-home newborn session. While I love the beauty and simplicity of a studio session, I think having a in-home newborn session is my favorite for so many reasons. From the ease & comfort of being in your own home to being able to show off all the hard work that was put into designing the baby’s nursery, there are many reasons to appreciate an in-home newborn session. Being a Philly newborn photographer, I’d love to share with you with some of the reasons why it may be perfect for you and your family!

The comfort of home for all family members

The biggest reason you will love an in-home newborn session most of all, is being in the comfort of your own home! This is great for any parent or siblings who may be on the more timid side when in front of the camera. Having all of your personal belongings and familiar spaces can ease any nerves while being photographed.

The ease of taking care of baby while at home

Newborn sessions are calm and very much followed on the baby’s schedule. It is incredibly convenient to be home and have access to all of your baby’s necessities while taking portraits. For instance, if you fed your little one prior to their session but they are still a little fussy and could have another bottle, it’s simple to hop into the kitchen to whip one up! Or more so, if there is a diaper accident half way through your session, you still have access to all of your littles one’s clothes.

The relaxed, organic nature of the session

Choosing an in-home newborn session means the posing is much more relaxed and authentic while interacting with one another. You can feel as though you have stepped into the a day in the life with your new baby and all the joyous moments it brings. When you are comfortable in your own home, it’s easier to show the love between you and your family. Cuddling on a studio bed may photograph well, but it doesn’t really feel authentic to me.

The benefit of having environmental newborn portraits done in your home

Something that makes an in-home newborn session feel so special is getting to one day look back at these portraits and remember the home you brought your baby to and the beginning of your story as a family. Photographing in your home, no one will be able to replicate your pictures as it is authentic to the story that you are telling and showing that home is truly where the heart is.

Showcase the details of your nursery

Finally, after 9 months of dreaming about the perfect nursery, you can finally show all the love and time that went in to making it reflect your personal style. For this session, mom is actually an artist professionally and curated some amazing details in this nursery! For instance, she incorporated both vintage art and her very own watercolor paintings in baby’s room.
